The trek starts off from the village of Embona which is the home of Rhodes’ wine and the distilled drink called ‘Souma’.
Climbing the gentle vine-clad hills, we enter a cypress forest that has been designated as a Natura 2000 area. The sea can be seen in all directions. Interesting geological formations such as gorges and gullies can be seen everywhere.
We head towards an outstanding plateau to stretch out a bit, where the horizon is blue above the Mediterranean Sea which blurs with the blue sky of the Greek heavens. Then we begin our descent through a lush gorge, dense with cypress and pine trees. The sea view continues to steal our breath away.
We reach the finishing point, the village of Embona, where we can take a tour of the distilleries and wineries and sample the offerings from the locals or buy a bottle of local wine or ‘Souma’.
